As listed from Dr. Ilisha Newhouse's new book "Mystery Shopping Made Simple", the Do's and Don'ts of Mystery Shopping are:

Do's:

  • Give the associate the opportunity to suggestive sell and demonstrate items.
  • Be fair and objective.
  • Get names and descriptions.
  • Write in complete sentences, using proper grammar and spelling.
  • Meet the time constraints of the assignment.
  • Communicate a need for an extension of the assignments.
  • Catch the employee doing the right thing and praise her or him.
  • Check for congruency in all areas of the report.
  • Get a receipt and mail in proof of your shop.

Don'ts:

  • Forget to get names.
  • Be afraid of entering a store.
  • Rush.
  • Delay processing paperwork.
  • Submit a report in an incorrect manner.
  • Utilize opinions.
  • Forget to communicate a need for an extension.
  • Forget to send in a receipt.
